My Students
I have grades K-5 as a school librarian. I am continually working on increasing the love of learning in all of my students: anything from how to find books within the library system to lessons that go with popular read-aloud books while in the library.
They only get a limited time in the library and I want to make it as enjoyable of an experience as possible.
I encourage all of my students to find books that they will enjoy and help encourage them to read.
My Project
Not only do students learn academics at school, but they are also learning social and emotional skills as well. Skills on how to deal with anxiety, fear, becoming friends and such. These lessons that they learning by hearing the stories and having conversations afterwards will not only help them grow now with these skills, but it will stay with them as they get older and become productive citizens in the world.
Reinforcing positive behavior can go a long way.
To help reinforce some of these lessons our school has a PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention System) Store. Students earn slips that we call Wolf Tracks and they get to use these to buy little trinkets. Some of the materials/prizes are to help supplement our store, which I run. This would give them some new things to work towards.
It is vital for our students to learn how to overcome obstacles and how to express how they are feeling to become a more well rounded student.
