I teach an amazing group of students in a Title I school in North Carolina. Most of them qualify for free meals. They are great kids! They enter the room ready to work each day and are anxious to learn new things.
My Project
Graphic novels are engaging! They have drawings and illustrations and are full of text for readers to decode, analyze, and comprehend. They interest students and hold their attention! Graphic novels often add the extra support kids need to help them through a text. With graphic novels, readers must understand cause and effect and follow plots and character development. The plots have twists and turns! Characters are developed! Conflicts are presented and resolved! All of these things help to improve reading comprehension.
Teachers and literacy experts agree that graphic novels will improve children's' reading skills, and they are excellent choices for reading.
Graphic novels are high-quality reading material that captivates children's attention, with images to support development. In addition, this combination of text and pictures provides a background for stories that readers may otherwise not completely understand.
