My Students
We have a phenomenal group of students at our middle school. We are located in one of the poorest counties in the state of Wisconsin. Many of our students are on the free/reduced lunch program and rely on the school to help meet some basic needs.
Our students are known for being kind, honest, and helpful.
We have a give/take/borrow closet for students in need of clothing that is frequently replenished by other students in the school who have extra clothing to spare. They are a community of students in the truest sense of the word.
My Project
Our school has recently had a gym close down for structural issues, effectively doubling class sizes for physical education with numbers reaching above 70 in some classes. The students have demonstrated a great attitude towards the situation but are looking for ways to utilize an incomplete fitness room to allow more students to move safely and improve their fitness.
They recognize that improving their components of health will help make them healthier people but also perform better in the classroom and on the sports field.
They are excited at the chance to space out more effectively and use functional equipment in a safe and fun manner. With your help, we would purchase equipment that could be spread out in our commons area to exercise. The equipment would include step boxes for improving cardio fitness and work on plyometrics, battling ropes for improving posture and back strength, and sand bells to improve overall body strength in a fun way.
