Improving My Instruction and the Students' Learning

My Students

This is my sixteenth year teaching and my sixth year teaching Pre-Kindergarten, and I still love it.

I teach in a Title I school in the heart of Brooklyn, NY.

This experience has been mostly positive but it has come with lots of challenges. One of these challenges has been teaching to the new Common Core Standards without being provided with curriculum that is aligned with them.

My Project

I am requesting Eureka PreMath teacher's guide books, the Units of Study in Opinion, Information, and Narrative Writing, and other professional development books. I plan on using these books to teach myself more about teaching math, writing and science to my students. I am also requesting non-fiction trade books, different animal sets and materials to give my students the ability to observe animals in the classroom and to pretend they are taking care of animals. This will enrich our unit on animals.

I always want to be the best teacher I can be.

Sometimes I attend workshops to improve my teaching and sometimes I learn about new curriculum to keep my teaching fresh. These materials will help me do that.
