Improving My Classroom Environment

My students need a welcoming, open, and safe learning environment using inspirational quotes for the walls and comfortable seating.

My Students

My students are advanced readers and writers, but they sometimes seem too worldly. I'd like to inspire their middle school imaginations with quotes on the walls, and I'd like to make them more comfortable during silent reading by filling my two deflated beanbag chairs.

My students are extremely strong readers and writers.

They thrive in the classroom, they question the texts we read, and they think critically about their own perspectives, and others'. I want to do as much as I can to keep that engagement going throughout their middle school career, as I keep the same students for all three years (6th, 7th, and 8th).

My Project

The inspirational quote decals will frame the room at the top of the wall around the whole room, where I rarely dare to venture with less permanent materials (the classroom is pretty lofty). That blank space will be much better used by giving the students something to think about. The quotes will be incorporated into a writing assignment as well. The beanbag chair filler will reinvigorate my poor, deflated beanbag chairs to create a more comfortable environment for my students to enjoy their many books. I keep lots of extra supplies on hand for my students who might not be able to bring new ones all the time, and I'd really love to have small organizers in which to store them.

These donations will elevate the level of comfort, safety, and openness of the atmosphere in my classroom.

Since I will have these students for the long haul, three whole years, my goal is to make my classroom like a second home where they can be successful, both emotionally and academically.
