My Students
Help us learn! We need some help to improve our math skills!
What child doesn't want to feel successful?
My students are children who come primarily from low income households. Our school is an urban Title 1 school with almost 98 % of our students receiving free or reduced lunches. As with most first graders, my students have a great love for learning and work very hard to always do their best. Unfortunately, most of my students do not have the educational support at home and lack the math skills that are needed to give them a "leg-up" in math skills.
My Project
The resources from this project will help my students increase their math skills and scores in a variety of ways.
The timer will be used to time our "Math Minute" races! Students are given a minute to complete 16 math addition or subtraction facts. Every time a student passes a race, they get to move their "math fact car" ahead in the race.
The study partition boards will be used during quizzes and tests, and sometimes during practice. These boards help to minimize distractions during important test and quizzes, which in turns helps boost scores!
The math flash-cards will help students prepare for standardized tests in a fun way. Students will be able to quiz themselves and each other on first grade math skills.
The majority of my students are stuck in a cycle of poverty, that I believe can only be broken with education.
My students struggle day-to-day with math skills and keeping up with the "Joneses" on standardized tests. Many of my students lack educational support at home, and are fully dependent on the school for all of their learning needs. It is my hope that with the right tools, teachers, and motivation, my students can move on to succeed in school and ultimately change their lives.
