My Students
Readers Theater is an integrated approach for involving students in reading, writing, listening, and speaking activities. It involves children in….
sharing literature,
reading aloud,
writing scripts,
performing with a purpose, and
working collaboratively.
I am lucky enough to get to share the love of reading with students kindergarten through 4th grade in my school's library!
We are a Title I school with 77% of our population economically disadvantaged and 47% limited English proficiency.
Our students attend a school that provides them with safety, comfort, high expectations, opportunities to experience success, and plenty of love.
My Project
I would like to start a Readers Theater club at my school for 2nd graders.
Readers Theater helps to develop fluency through repeated exposure to text, increase comprehension, integrate reading, writing, speaking, listening in an authentic context. Readers Theater also helps to engage students, increase reading motivation, create confidence and improve the self-image of students, provide a real purpose for reading, and provide opportunities for cooperative learning.
My students need reader's theater scripts and costumes to improve their fluency.
Drama, as many teachers are discovering, is not only fun and natural for children, it also encourages emotional growth, motivation, and engagement.
Readers Theater has been found to be particularly effective in building reading fluency. It can also boost listening and speaking skills, enhance confidence, and transform reluctant readers into book lovers.
