My Project
My students will learn the danger of pretending to be something you're not by reading Mother Night. I will ask them to imagine an ideal version of themselves and imagine a future where that person could thrive. They will also propose solutions to problems that might get in their way.
Reading Mother Night will fuel their imaginations and impact them deeply on the way toward this project of agency and self-actualization.
Vonnegut is the perfect mentor text for their project, because they are still writing creative fiction. But they will also see firsthand the power of narrative to change our lives and the power we truly have over our own lives.
