My Students
The largest part of our day is called" Choice Time", which is critical to the growth and development of preschoolers. Choice Time occurs twice a day. During this time the students learn the importance of making choices, problem solving, and completing a task. "From there to here, and here to there, FUNNY things are everywhere." Dr. Seuss.
DREM is a small urban public school with about 250 students.
It is located in the Bedford Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn. Our school is considered the best keep secret of our small district. Our students are filled with school pride everyday as they recite the Pledge of Allegiance and our school affirmation. Our school is a high needs school and is classified as Title I. Nearly 100 percent of our students receive free or reduced lunch.
My students are the typical 4 and 5 year olds; caring, inquisitive, energetic, and eager to learn. My students' drive for learning was evident when they won 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in the 2016 science fair, thanks to the support of their parents.
My Project
The donations from this project will become a part of our daily activities in our Pre-K classroom. Magna Tiles will be used daily during "Choice Time" in the block area. Additionally, as we walk through the neighborhood we pay attention to the details of the homes all around us. Most of them have stain glass windows and intriguing designs... they look the same but they are different in so many ways. These observations will allow them to add individuality to their creations when using the magnetic building blocks/tiles. These blocks will enhance our units of study related to "All About Me", and "Communities" as students discuss what they want to be when they grow up.
The Magna Tiles will provide the opportunity for my students to solve problems and increase their social and emotional skills while working with their classmates.
They will enjoy exploring math and science concepts through hands on experience.
