Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are amazing. They are sweet, thoughtful and eager to learn; each of them coming with a unique set of gifts and abilities that bring such a wonderful diversity to the classroom.
Our school has a great relationship with the neighborhood in which it sits and spends a lot of time getting students involved in the community and preparing them for college, leadership and life.
Our school community has a high rate of Special Education students and English Language Learners, and the majority of our students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds.
With such a high population of Spanish-speaking students and students with classroom support needs, encouragement in literacy and mathematical foundations are very important.
My Project
My students come with diverse learning needs and many of them learn best through interactive programs and activities. In our classroom, we use mathematics and literacy programs such as Read 180 and iReady on a daily basis. My students also use a number of educational websites and apps to help with phonics and sight word practice, basic writing conventions, reading fluency and comprehension, letter and number recognition and basic facts practice.
These different programs and online resources provide learning opportunities for students on THEIR instructional level and help to support their practice in foundational skills and concepts.
Having tablets is vital to our classroom because they will allow access to resources that will propel my students forward in their learning and help them to meet their individualized goals.
