My Students
Having a creative outlet is very important in developing a well rounded student. I believe that the arts play an important role within the classroom. Allowing students to explore, experiment, and create with a variety of artistic tools inspires them in all academic areas.
My students are a very diverse group of children in both ethnicity and socioeconomic background.
My students are hard working, kind, and very creative. First Grade is a magical year of growth for each child. It is always amazing to witness the academic growth, maturity, and creativity that these wonderful students embody. This school is the heart of the neighborhood community and holds a very special place in my own heart. As a child, I was a student at this same school and now I am fortunate to be giving back to the community as an educator. In the classroom, I strive to inspire creativity and to encourage my students' curiosity. It is important that my students know that I am invested in their education and their future. We are a proud school of hard working students and were honored to have earned the recognition of California Distinguished School for 2012! Please help support my students' creativity with a donation to our project.
My Project
I have requested a variety of artists supplies to help facilitate the creativity of my students. We have the basic materials covered within the classroom, however I would love for my students to create with materials and tools that they may not have access to at home. The materials that I have requested include: oil pastels, chalk pastels, water color, water color paper, tempera paint, paint brushes and texturing tools that will inspire a creative eye. This year I plan to create a ceramic leaf project, a paper-mache project, and several projects using a variety of oil pastels, chalk pastels, and watercolors. This year we have already completed a chalk and oil directed draw of a teddy bear and an oil, chalk, and tempera paint pumpkin project. Our supplies are running low and there is simply less money to purchase these valuable 'extras' and more students consuming them. Thank you for your consideration.
With all of the emphasis on reading, writing, and mathematics, the arts sometimes get left out of the curriculum.
I believe that using writing to create art, and being inspired to write because of art, is a wonderful partnership. Students need to be encouraged to explore color, materials, and be giving the time to truly create from the heart. A child's art can be so expressive of their feelings and of their soul. Children should always be encouraged to dream, explore, and create!
