Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I became my school's librarian in January, and now that we are back to in-person school I have finally met my students. I have had the opportunity to get to know my students and I now know what is needed to satisfy their interests in books. Our school has many students who are bused in from lower income communities where households do not have the means of providing or building a home library. It is my job to provide a variety of books for our students to check out and enjoy reading at home with no cost to their families. A school library is convenient for students to check out books where they can independently go while at school and not depend on an adult to take them to the public library. I want smiles and joy when they pick a book that sparks their interest. I want laughter when I read funny stories, amazement when they see interesting creatures in a book that they've never seen before and the excitement to take a book home to read to their family.

My Project

I'm the new librarian and I want to create a fun and inviting space for the students when they come to check out books. I want to decorate the walls with posters, boarders and inspirational quotes. It is important to display books in a way to grab the student's attention. During prep classes, it is necessary to keep the kids engaged with exciting activities that include different colors, textures, and materials. It is my hope that with this project funding I can take my student's library experience to the next level. Thank you.
