This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are full of energy and curiosity! They are five and six-year-olds who are excited to learn. I try to make learning fun and engaging through remote learning. For some of my students, kindergarten is their first school experience which means that they come with different skills and abilities.

I believe that every child can learn at their own developmental pace.

My Project

I'm requesting books that promote empathy, diversity, inclusion, and antiracism. It's so important to begin teaching students about diverse cultures and point out not just the differences but also the similarities.

The most effective way to teach students about empathy, diversity, inclusion, and anti racism is by using books.

My classroom library doesn't have books about diversity and students should be able to see themselves in books. I'd like to have discussions with my students about accepting differences. Students should also learn about their own culture and the struggles that have been encountered throughout history. These books will spark these conversations that will lead to empathy for others.
