My Students
Make-believe play in my pre-k classroom allows for imaginations to soar, language to expand, and social skills to develop!
The students in my pre-k classes are three, four and five year olds that have been screened and found "at risk" for development in either cognitive, language or motor areas.
Developing language/vocabulary skills is a key component to school success! Research provides more and more evidence of the positive effects that well-developed play has on various areas of child development, such as social skills, emerging mathematical ability, and early literacy skills.
My Project
Having a variety of props available to my students such as pretend kitchen appliances, restaurant writing tools, and pretend food will create an environment conducive to rich imaginative play, which in turn will help to develop many necessary skills for school success and healthy food choices. After all, pretend play is a child's work! Giving my students the necessary tools to pretend to be a veterinarian, cook dinner, prepare shape muffins, and put on a puppet show for an audience will allow language, math, and social skills to develop through their dramatizations.
Children naturally like to model after the adults in their lives.
By providing them with these exciting props to pretend through play with will allow them to develop the necessary language, math, and social skills a quality pre-k class should have!
