Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I will be teaching a class of 20 first graders who all receive free or reduced lunch. Approximately 75% of my students speak English as a second language. I teach in California, in a low income community.
So often we see children discouraged and not interested in learning. I believe it is important for students to have a positive attitude towards learning. I also believe they should have fun, be engaged and responsible for their learning so they can develop their imaginations. This year I would like to incorporate art activities across the curriculum while encouraging my students to explore their creativity and artistic abilities.
I am writing this proposal, hoping to receive art materials that we usually do not have at our school site, such as modeling clay, glue sticks, string beads, and skin colored construction paper.
These few materials will allow the students to create a variety of art activities. For example, they can make name necklaces which will help their self esteem while they learn to read their names as well as their classmates.
The modeling clay will allow the students to create their favorite animal that they will use to write descriptive stories. The glue will be used to make "reading buddies" that they will read to every day. I thank you in bringing smiles to my students and letting them explore their creativity.
