Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Research has found that by the end of the 4th grade, students in Title 1 schools are already two years behind grade level. By the time these students reach the 12th grade they are a whopping four years behind. Pre-kindergarten programs are a promising way to reduce adult poverty in this country.
My pre-k students are amazing little humans who are not only filled with energy but with a huge desire explore and learn.
I work at a low socioeconomic school in TX. The neighborhood my students live in is one of the toughest and scariest in the city. My classroom is a safe haven for many of my students. It is not only somewhere they come to learn but a place where they can feel safe and loved.
My Project
A classroom in which pretend play is encouraged, not only leads to great amounts of imagination and enhanced curiosity. It also builds children's vocabulary and thinking skills. That's exactly what the Veterinary Set and puppets will do for my students in the dramatic play area of the classroom.
As a bilingual teacher building my students vocabulary is extremely critical.
The dramatic play materials such as the Veterinary set and baby doll with crib will provide my students with the resources to enhance their vocabulary in a fun way. The Goldilocks and 3 Bears puppets set will also help with the development of language for my students. My students love read aloud's and enjoy retelling stories using props.
