Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students enter the classroom each day with smiles on their faces. Most of them live in multi-generational homes and often walk to school with Grandma. They have great relationships with their classmates, most of whom they've known for their entire school career. They are kind and always willing to share and help classmates who need support. They love school. They are eager to learn and look forward to learning each day.
All of my students come from low-income homes.
The cultural make-up of my class is as follows: 90% Latino (Dominican Republic, Mexico, and Ecuador), 5% are African or African-American; and 5% are Asian. More than half of my students are part of after-school programs that allow them to be active, express themselves on stage, and develop their skills in technology, reading, writing and math.
My Project
A document camera will make a big difference with how my students learn. They will have more confidence when making presentations with the ability to clearly show the objects/artifacts on a big screen. Also, students will be more engaged in lessons. They will have a clear visual representation of what is being discussed. In addition, there are a few students that have difficulty seeing the board. This tool will allow them to see more clearly. A document camera will provide students the ability to focus on important elements of each lesson. My students would greatly benefit from this real-time, capture device for displaying an object to a large audience.
