Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Has your computer ever crashed on you? Have you had to wait minutes for it to load or shut down? As a growing project-based learning school, our technology continues to lag behind the projects we desire our students to create.
My students have been under-served since the beginning of their schooling.
My students come from low-income homes, many with only one or no parent. They are born with little social capital and are often underestimated by our society. They work very hard when given the chance, and I know they will make a positive difference in our world.
My Project
This year I am teaching a new class entitled CEA - Civil Engineering and Architecture. My students need an iMac computer to use in the new Civil Engineering and Architecture course. Students will use professional architecture software to construct commercial and residential buildings from laying the foundation to framing the house. This computer will allow us to take full advantage of the software. Furthermore, students are learning how to use Adobe Illustrator in their art classes. As their pre-calculus teacher, I will be able to combine rigorous mathematics with art to construct high quality, professional projects. The power of this computer will allow myself and my students to take full advantage of the software available to create amazing projects.
Supporting this project will have a tremendous impact on both my pre-calculus students and my architecture students.
As we continue to develop students both in the sciences and in the humanities our goal is to send students into the world as well-rounded individuals that can both think and create things that are meaningful. Contributing to this project is one more step towards that goal.
More than a third of students from low‑income households
