My Students

Kindergarteners think everything "should" belong to them. They do not seem to understand that money doesn't grow on trees. Making smart financial decisions is not even in their way of thinking, but it should be. That is the goal of this project. It will also put a book in their hands to keep.

My target students are in kindergarten and 1st grade in an Arkansas Delta school with a very high population of students who qualify for free or reduced price lunch.

They are incredibly bright and eager to learn. They love working on inquiry-driven projects that require them to work together and apply twenty-first century skills.

My Project

I actually teach at the middle school level, and sponsor the FBLA (The Future Business Leaders of America) Chapter. If funded, I will train my middle school FBLA members to take work in teams, then take the requested book, Bunny Money (Max and Ruby) to teach it with a partnering Kindergarten class. This way two groups of students will be learning the same financial management skills, but at different levels of understanding.

Not only will the students get to hear the book and do an activity with it, but at the end of the lesson each student will get a copy of the book to keep for themselves.

They will be able to take it home and share with their parents, so this project will continue to impact families.
