My Students
My class is an amazing bunch! Our school is a Title I school that serves students who come from a diverse set of backgrounds, experiences, and a low-income school district. My students are faced with several daily challenges in and out of the classroom. The students in my classroom are full of energy and very enthusiastic about learning. Pre-K is such an exciting group of mixed interests, abilities, and goals.
In this class, we build a community around what we have in common and our shared experiences.
My goal to help students be successful emotionally and academically.
My Project
In an era in which writing and language development are being overshadowed by Emojis, text lingo, and cultural speech, my PreK students need a head start in developing and mastering the craft of writing. These materials will allow students a visual and hands-on opportunity to understand that the words they speak can be written. Young learners are eager to communicate and I would like for my students to be exposed to the correct ways in strengthening fine motor skills, building sentence structure, and linking letter-sound combinations to make words phonetically.
My students need creative opportunities to write in every area or center in the room.
Mailboxes, notepads, and storybook paper will provide the practice they need to be writers. Books relating to writing will inspire the students to write their own versions. The sidewalk chalk will allow the students to write while outside!
These materials will make a difference because at-risk PreK students are entering school with little hand-eye coordination or fine motor skills. They are struggling to form letters and numbers to write words or even copy/trace at times. Young learners need early exposure in order to grow into independent learners.
