This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

If you've met any teenager, you know they are hungry almost all of the time. What many of you don't know is how difficult it is to get them to focus on schoolwork, especially when they are hungry. This is compounded when you add learning, emotional, and physical disabilities to the mix.

Help me help my students by being able to address student focus, hunger, and food insecurity in my classroom.

According to a study done through our local university, "More children qualify for free and reduced school breakfast and lunch than are utilizing it, indicating that many children may experience hunger in [our] County."

In addition to food insecurity, another educator on my team mentioned to me that one of our students approached her saying they don't have the financial resources at home to pay for feminine hygiene products. As an educator, I have an up-close view of the economic disparities in our communities, yet am unable to fund the need on my own, which is why I've come to you.
