I've had the amazing opportunity to welcome a kind, diverse group of scholars to my classroom - and for many of them, this is their first experience with the school environment at all.
My school serves some of the highest need students in our area, and I want to set a foundation for academic success.
My students bring a variety of languages, cultures, and backgrounds to our classroom, and many of them are still learning how to be ready to learn at school. However, each and every child has such a great potential to learn and we have high academic expectations for our kindergarten scholars!
My Project
Our school does not have the technology needed to support a K-2 classroom unfortunately, therefore we have to work with what we are given. A lot of our students become very engaged in the early months of kindergarten with visual practice.
Sight words are a huge deal in the beginning stages of learning to read.
Although I've created differentiated sight word groups, when students are not at my station, they must work with very little teacher support. Sight words cannot be decoded, therefore it is near impossible to review or learn sight words independently. There are many apps that allow students to learn, read, trace and spell with vocal support! With an iPad in the classroom, this will give students more sight word practice as well as listening to reading.
