This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"If you don't love something, you're not going to go the extra mile, work the extra weekend, challenge the status quo as much." Steve Jobs said and I want my students to learn to love reading and writing when they get an opportunity to use current, innovative, and exciting technology.
The students in this Miami inner city school mostly come from an impoverished and crime ridden neighborhood where more than 90% of the students live in public housing developments.
These children are greatly lacking in language and communication skills. The elementary school is often, for my students, the first encounter with structured learning as well as any form of modern day technology which experts in education say is crucial in helping close the achievement gap.
My Project
The iPad minis will be used in the Language Arts center and also during reading intervention time. The Apple iPad forum provides hundreds of educational Apps that will greatly assist my students with phonics, reading, writing, comprehension, and speaking skills.
I look forward to having my students master their reading, writing, and communication skills in order for them to meet or exceed expectations in Kindergarten and be ready for the educational challenges they will encounter in the first grade and beyond.
Also, immersing students in better educational technology will ultimately put them in charge of their own learning experience. The use of the iPad minis will help to close the technology gap and allow my students to be ready for the future.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
