Have you ever had to sit in the back of the classroom? Even students with perfect vision have trouble seeing on the 22" TV screen. Currently this is the only way for us to utilize the visual presenter or even look at web pages together. Students love the larger than life images projected. Help us!
There are 30 4th graders in this classroom.
With a high number of free and reduced lunch and such large class sizes we try to make learning more personal through hands on experiences and inquiry. This k-5 school has over 700 students in a urban setting.
My Project
Most importantly students will have a great view from around the room. Any student with a vision problem is at a great disadvantage when they cannot see what is on the screen. Even students with perfect eyesight have trouble focusing on such a small image displayed on the 22" TV screen, let alone trying to crowd around a table with an activity being modeled.
Visual Thinking Strategies is how we look at artwork in the classroom building toward a field trip to an art museum. The local art museum had a projector when they visited and students loved looking at the artwork and answering questions like "What do you see happening in this image?" and "What in the image makes you think that?" Students' eyes were glued to the large piece of artwork displayed by the projector. When we recently tried this same activity with a poster size image it was much less engaging. Students had trouble viewing the image and were distracted by other things around the classroom and had trouble focusing.
In this technology driven world there are so many options when using a projector.
Help me give these students the opportunity to love and get excited about what they are learning in addition to providing experiences with art, science, and math that they could not get without the projector.
