At the end of the school year, I want students to feel accomplished and proud of all their hard work. I want them to feel confident going into third grade. My biggest challenge is motivating and engaging every single one of them so they are excited about learning!
I have a class full of twenty-three seven and eight year olds.
My students are eager to get their little hands on any kind of technology. Our district has worked very hard to incorporate technology into every classroom! Our school has access to iPad carts that travel around the school, but it's so convenient to actually have items in the classroom to use. We currently have 2 iPod touches, however, one is so old that I am unable to add any new educational apps.
My Project
We would use the additional iPod Touch as a work station. It's a great way to have students practice skills we are learning in the classroom. I will put apps on it that focus on counting money, addition and subtraction facts, sight words, etc. For those students that need a challenge, I can add apps that will provide that challenge. For example, if a student is ready for basic multiplication (a 3rd grade skill), they can play a Multiplication Bingo game. We could also use the iPod Touch as a camera so students could document their day and/or their work. Students could use it to scan a QR code that will take them to a book they could listen to online.
As we all know, technology is constantly changing and updating.
In order to keep up with the times (and not miss out on all the new educational opportunities in the App Store), we need a new iPod Touch that is compatible. It will help students stay engaged in their learning!
