Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Enter our classroom and you are sure to hear students asking, "Can I use an iPad today?" "I want to practice Math!" "I want to read!" "I want to do Word Work!" iPad technology has been helping our 2nd grade classroom soar into learning. But, our current iPads are not enough.
I work with a wonderful group of second graders who are energetic, inquisitive, and highly motivated to learn.
They come from diverse backgrounds and have a wide range of learning needs, including students with learning disabilities, English learners, and students who are gifted. We are an urban school located in one of the largest school districts in the country. Although there has been a major decrease in funds for our school over the past few years, our school community has worked together to provide our students with a quality education and we are proud to be named a "California Distinguished School". Yet, decreasing funds also means fewer resources for our students. Technology in our school is antiquated and in need of upgrading. This technology will allow more students to interact daily with a new technology that would otherwise be unavailable for them at school.
My Project
Learning opportunities are limitless with iPads in the classroom! iPad is an innovative tool that engages students and can lead to higher levels of learning in all subjects. Apps can be used to practice skills in highly engaging and motivating ways. Students can practice reading fluency, listen to books, do research, and work cooperatively to create math, language arts, social studies, and science projects.
The iPad allows for differentiated learning! With the wide range of learners within my classroom, these iPads will allow differentiation of instruction and help meet the needs of all students at their instructional level. Each student will be able to practice skills that are essential to their learning, whether they are above, below, or on grade level. The iPad Minis can be used independently, in small group, or with the speaker system to enhance whole group learning. The addition of these iPad Minis will give more students the opportunity to engage with this motivating technology.
The growing number of educational apps available makes iPads an invaluable resource in the classroom.
In addition, these iPad Minis can be used with future students, so the benefits are long lasting. These iPad Minis will help my students learn and explore the world with a swipe of a finger. I know that with your help, we can "touch" their futures!
