I am a speech therapist working at a Title l elementary school in East New York, Brooklyn. All of our students qualify for free breakfast and lunch and many children receive additional foods and school supplies. My students are all receiving special education remedial services for speech and language impairments. Many of my students are also classified as autistic and learning disabled. I love my students, they each have their unique qualities and all have a passion to learn. Many of my students come from a variety of cultural backgrounds which makes our school a beautiful quilt of cultures.
My Project
The Apple Air 2 tablet will be hooked up with the Osmo gaming system to create interactive hands on language development learning activities. Many of my students are easily engaged with the use of technology. The Osmo system provides multiple points of entry with coloring pictures, alphabet cubes, and audio prompts. With this program I can better customize differentiated lessons to reach all my students no matter what their learning levels. In addition, with the iPad I can download a variety of language apps which will also engage my students in interactive learning. Our school is establishing cross content between science and literacy. What better way to learn about ecosystems and environmental science than accessing kid friendly science websites?
