My Students
My students are very deserving and thankful for every opportunity given to them. I teach Math and Physical Education at a Kindergarten through 12th grade school in rural Alabama that serves 861 students. 66% of our students are minority students. 100% of our students receive free school breakfast and lunch and some students receive food over the weekend through a volunteer based Blessings in a Backpack program. Despite many hardships and obstacles, my students are hard-working and determined to succeed.
My Project
There are so many more interesting ways to learn math other than worksheet after worksheet. Please help me bring technology into my classroom to make learning math more exciting and hands-on.
Having an class set of iPads in my classroom would allow me to use various apps to enhance my math lessons and make them more real-world applicable.
We are slowly working toward a classroom set, one by one! Skitch, Doodle Buddy, Quick Graphs, and Algebra Touch are apps with the goal of helping students to gain a better understanding of mathematics standards. These apps allow the problems to be presented in a concrete, visual way rather than monotonously solving equations from the textbook. If students can see the problem broken down step by step, it becomes more easily understood. I want my students to be excited about math and realize how frequently we must use math skills in our daily lives.
