This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Gone are the days of sitting still in your seats working on worksheets. In efforts to prepare my students to be 21st century global learners, my students are in need of extra technology in the classroom.

I currently teach 2nd grade at an inner-city school in Texas.

Students are at-risk coming from a high-need community, however, they are very eager, motivated, ambitious learners. I provide a warm, welcoming environment that fosters creativity and offers opportunities to learn, explore, and create using technology. All students love every opportunity to learn through technology. Thanks to donors like you through Donor's Choose, I have been able to get technology into the classroom through the years.

My Project

Can you imagine really delving into a project and being really excited to complete it, but then having to put your creativity on hold because others need a chance on your device? Although we are grateful for the technology we do have, it is my goal to bring more technology into the classroom to ensure that students have the opportunity to work on a device daily. My students work hard on the research process, creating presentations, books, and plays, collaborating with peers, and applying critical thinking skills to solve problems through technology. They have collaborated with peers to create mini-movies that reenact a story they have read and have even created their own stories and movies. Students have taken ownership of their learning and have created amazing PowerPoint (Keynote) presentations to present to their classmates. Through the Nook and Kindle app, students have enjoyed reading books on their level and have used the note taking tool on Kindle to track their thinking.

With additional tools, students will have the ability to use technology daily and have the opportunity to complete their projects.

I have seen students' creativity soar with the use of technology. Having students work on meaningful technology projects and teaching and providing my students with 21st century skills and tools through technology, will prepare them for the very competitive world. These skills can be applied for years to come. The learning opportunities are endless!
