My students need books read aloud to them that will tap into many of the different lessons I am teaching during reader's workshop. These particular books lend to many different lessons to be taught.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Hello! We are a second grade class made up of 25 unique students. Our school is located in the South Bronx. My students know that they can always count on school being that constant in their lives.
We are super eager learners.
They are very eager readers, writers, mathematicians, scientists, and historians. They rip the library apart on a daily basis as they try and locate their next reading adventure. They are always excited to get their ideas down on paper regardless if its writing, social studies, or math. There are future scientists in this classroom who will be very successful dealing with electricity or out in the wilderness identify different animal adaptations. What can I say? We are great!
My Project
Read alouds have been a proven way to effectively teach students in the classroom. This is by far one of my favorite times of the day. The materials that make up this project have been specifically chosen to tap into many different skills and strategies taught through reader's workshop lessons.
These books also will teach a variety of different social skills that will need to be taught.
I am so excited to teach growth mindset through many different titles such as Jarbari Jumps, The Thing Lou Couldn't Do, After the Fall along with many others. My kids will be practicing summarizing, retelling, and identifying character change through these read aloud.
