My students need supplies to re-create ancient theater such as art materials for theatrical masks, music of the time, and a camcorder to record their performance.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Walt Disney said, "It all started with a mouse and a dream." The Disney brand is synonymous with dreams, and our class believes they can come true. Disney, our dream is to bring the Ancient Civilizations to life through visual and performing arts. We've wished...please be our star!
The students in my class attend school in a very low income area.
The surrounding neighborhood is infested with 35 identified gang rivalries. Every child deserves to live in a neighborhood they can call "the happiest place on Earth" yet these children live with worry, hardship, hunger, and even fear. They have no magic lamp, no fairy godmother, no special person to grant their wish. What they do have is hope, and dreams of a better future. They are bright, enthusiastic, and eager to learn. It is my sincere hope that Disney and other donors will help me take them on an exciting and educational journey through the Ancient Civilizations!
My Project
My students need supplies to re-create ancient theater such as art materials for theatrical masks, music of the time, and a camcorder to record their performance. The resources I've requested will help bring our textbook to life. Reading about theater, music, and art is boring!! We need to perform, listen to music, and create!! With these supplies, scholars will better understand the historical contributions of past cultures. They will create and perform scripts, differentiate the theatrical contributions of cultures such as those in Ancient Greece, Egypt, and China, and will listen to and describe the role of music in ancient civilizations. Through all of these things, scholars can analyze the development of the visual arts in past cultures throughout the world and recognize human diversity. This journey through the ancient civilizations will keep scholars engaged as we learn Language Arts, Social Studies, and all of the Visual and Performing Arts California State Standards.
I once read, "Reading creates ideas and opportunities, but it is the actions that flow from these ideas that creates true learning." I would like to create an active learning environment for my scholars where they can read, then have the opportunity to create and really learn.
This will also be a wonderful opportunity involve parents. They can work with their children to create costumes and will be thrilled to come watch them perform at school!
