Help me give my students the resources needed in order to enhance our outdoor garden and make it a more inviting place to have class outdoors.

My Project

I work with resource students in the sixth grade. My students enjoy learning in different environments and not just sitting in the classroom. With these resources, they will be able to enhance our school garden for everyone in the building. We have picnic tables, umbrellas, and raised gardens in this space. Now we need plants, gardening tools to help us make this happen. We also need places for our wildlife (birds, butterflies, etc.) to come and hang out with us while we are learning.

We will be planting different types of flowers that will attract butterflies into our gardening area.

With this I will be incorporating a measurement unit discussing area, perimeter, and volume. We will also be collecting data and creating graphs and charts with how well our plants are growing. Students will build bird houses using our measurement skills. Students will also be creating a positivity rock garden. They will be painting these rocks and creating abstract art with these for all to enjoy.

This project will also give my students an opportunity to give back to the school by creating a place that all classes will be able to come and visit. This area will be an extension for the classroom so that all students are able to take part in this learning environment.
