Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Over the past five years, I have gained such a great opportunity, compassion, and love for the students at my school. We are a low-income charter school located in the heart of our city. As a second-year teacher, I am working on providing myself as a useful resource to help reach all of my families and students in my classroom. My school is so important to me because we build a natural community not only just in each of our classrooms, but we build community and support with our families, staff and school community. Life Prep takes pride in our strong culture of diversity and inclusion. We utilize individuals learning plans to focus on the student as a whole. We want to focus on strengths and building support. I want to provide tools my students will need to create and teach a potential of various learning aspects in each center of the classroom including literacy activities, math, reading, writing, art, and using their creative open-mindedness throughout the school day.
My Project
Each morning for morning meeting online, since we are all virtual this school year, I like to start out the day reading a book to my students. Asking them questions, they ask each other questions and getting their minds moving virtually at the beginning of the day. As we meeting for afternoon meeting I do a read-a-loud to give their minds a break from all morning learning activities. This gives them a chance to calm their bodies, follow along as I read and see their smiling faces online. Connecting with my students is so important during these trying times.
