This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My classroom is a happy and busy group of kindergarteners. Though they are only between the ages of five and six, these students have big ideas about our world. They are motivated, capable, curious, and love learning.

They like to move, read, play, and love lots of positive attention.

From the moment they walk in the door (or Zoom Room) of my classroom, I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hoping to inspire even our earliest learners to continue to question the world around them and become empowered in their own voice to make a difference in the community.

My Project

These books will continue to enhance the print-rich classroom that I strive to create - even remotely. Reading is something that permeates our entire day. We engage in read-aloud stories, learn reading strategies in small group and even read independently. The classroom library has always been our special place to choose interesting books and find the love of reading.

COVID-19 has changed the game, and students don't have access to our classroom library while in remote learning.

These books will allow students to start to build a home library with books that are appropriate for their reading abilities. They can build their ability to sound out words, learn concepts of print, and point under words. These foundational skills make lifelong readers, and building them with tangible books is much better practice. Bob Books are fun, because they are black and white. My students already have shown an astonishing interest in independent reading through online platforms, and this project will only help enrich their experiences with the printed word.
