This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"Birds fly, fish swim and children play" - Garry Landreth
Children learn best through play. They learn how to solve problems, how to get along, and how the world works.
I have a highly enthusiastic and energetic class composed of kindergarten and transition kindergarten students.
They love to sing, dance, write, and read, but their favorite time of the day is free choice time. During this time it is very evident what each child's unique talents and interests are. Artists draw elaborate pictures for their families at the art center. Chefs run a first class restaurant at the kitchen center. Engineers build castles and roads at the block center. Community workers save the day as they care for sick pets and stop crime.
My Project
They learn math, science, STEM, and communication skills as they buy/sell food, learn through trial and error, and share with their friends what they made. My role during this time is to observe and provide materials that will expand their learning. The learning centers I am requesting from Lakeshore will be added to our block center to expand the types of structures my engineers can build. Now, they will also be able to construct vehicles and build bridges and structures with various materials.
My young engineers need various building materials to envision and build the next Taj Mahal, Golden Gate Bridge, or Eiffel Tower.
We all know the line, "If you build it, they will come." My kinder students love to build so if you fund it, they will build it!
