My Students

"If you don't, then who will?" is a question we must ask of ourselves and of the people around us. As Earth Day 2014 is quickly approaching, my students and I are looking for ways to preserve and sustain our precious planet Earth.

I am blessed to teach a diverse, energetic group of third graders in an urban community.

They look at the world with inquisitive eyes. They are compassionate, focused, creative, and have their own unique personalities. There are over 600 students at my school with 23 countries represented and 17 languages spoken.

My Project

In class, my students and I look for ways to reduce, reuse, and recycle. The children are cognizant of turning off the lights when they exit the room. They recycle paper, plastic water bottles, cans, and cardboard. They use both sides of their paper. We also have a worm composite in our classroom. As Earth Day 2014 is approaching, I would like my students to discover ways to go green. Through various books, activities, and games, my hope is that they will take an active role in preserving the earth. I would like my students to have the opportunity to reduce and reuse by providing them with a canvas bag for their everyday use. The children will decorate a canvas bag with the theme "If you don't, then who will?" and use the bag at home. The fabric markers will also be used to refurbish stained shirts and decorate paper bags for special art and holiday projects.

I am looking forward to empowering my students with tools to encourage their family and friends to reduce or totally eliminate the use of plastic grocery bags and switch to reusable bags.

Will you be part of the solution by donating to our class project? Will you join us and take the challenge to reduce, reuse, and recycle?
