My Students

I want my students to be problem solvers. I want to be able to build and set a foundation for them, but most importantly, I want them to gradually be independent learners themselves. In a classroom where my students require attention all the time, its crucial to be organized so they can take charge.

As with most schools that have been around for such a long time, things tend to break down due to wear and tear.

The materials have been used and abused and after a few years, things need to be replaced. My students love that the classroom is organized and materials are labeled so they can just go and get what they need on their own because it can become hectic from time to time. But when things break down and cannot be replaced, it's difficult to still be neat and orderly. I want my students to succeed and I feel one way to best accomplish this would be to have an organized classroom for them.

My Project

My students will learn to be independent problem solvers. When there is a writing assignment that needs to be completed, they can just go right to the writing center and pick the type of writing paper they want, they can even choose to use a planning sheet beforehand. They would also have a more organized homework area, where they can just look for their name and take the sheets that belong to them without me always handing out individual sheets on a daily basis which can get lost or misplaced. They can also use the hole puncher with the rubber grip so they don't hurt themselves and place the paper fasteners through to hold their words each week for practice or to organize their reading logs and responses and keep it altogether.

This project will make a difference because it will improve the independence of the students in my classroom.

Instead of always relying on the teacher to do and get everything, they will learn that they can be problem solvers themselves as long as things are set up for them in a way that's helpful and beneficial for all. If they know where things are, they will have the independence to search for it themselves and I'm all about my students becoming more independent.
