If You Can Read This, Thank A Teacher- And Help My Students!
My students need high-interest young-adult books written by excellent authors, such as Walter Dean Myers and J.K. Rowling, so they become lifelong readers.

My Students
A Chinese proverb says, "A book is like a garden carried in the pocket." So many of my students do not have much to be excited about in their lives. They are burdened with life situations beyond their control and sometimes have to grow up too quickly.
My students are 7th and 8th graders who have struggled with reading throughout school.
They go to a small school in upstate New York that would benefit greatly from high-interest literature. My students have many passions, but not yet in the area of reading. This is where I come in- I have picked books that will spark their interests and encourage them to read for enjoyment.
My Project
With this donation, I will be able to pair each student with a book he/she will love and be excited to read. I know from experience how one book can make a positive change in one's life, and I am confident that the books I've chosen will appeal to each of my unique students. Currently, my students view reading as a chore, and I hope to have them see reading as a fun lifelong activity.
The project I am hoping to get funded will be a gift that keeps giving each year in my classroom.
My students may change year after year, so I have carefully selected books that will "hook" my students. I am hoping that this project will be like a domino effect, in that my students will start with reading one book and it will lead to many others for years to come.
