My Students
We are a busy room of active learning! I have a combination class of amazing Kindergarten and First Graders. They range in levels from learning our letters, and sounds to students who are reading at a third grade level.
I have a very sweet, kind, chatty group of Kinder/Firsts this year.
They truly care about each other. When we have a success of any kind in our room, they are always happy for each other. I teach in a school where the incomes range from poverty to middle class. I have Kindergarteners in my room this year who had never used a computer or tablet, and I have students who have only used tablets. It is quite a range! Our school is in transition, our building is in such bad shape that at the end of the year the district will be moving us temporarily to another building while they tear ours down and build us a new one. We will also be making the switch to an environmentally focused STEM school, something we are all excited about. Growing up by parks and water has given all of my students an appreciation for nature and they want to take care of it.
My Project
With an iPad we can explore the world of Bats, or Space with just the touch of a finger! We would like an iPad to help our move towards STEM, and to help reinforce all the skills we are learning. Technology is a huge part of any school, especially one that has a STEM program. Learning to use the latest technology is essential in education today, and many of my students do not have this access in their homes. An iPad will also allow me to differentiate for all the levels in my class. The huge range of apps available today will allow me to challenge them all at their individual levels.
The gift of an iPad to our room will give my students daily access to technology that is a part of our world.
They will learn how to use this technology, not to play games, or dress a princess, but to learn at their individual level. They will reinforce their literacy and math skills and start developing the STEM skills that will be a part of their future.
