Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is located in an inner city neighborhood. Most of the students have two working parents and many speak a second language at home. The neighborhood our school is located in is a diverse, urban setting.
My students are eager young learners.
This school year will be their first exposure to a large public school. The children speak another language at home and are economically challenged. Most students receive free lunch.
My students deserve to start their academic careers with as many opportunities as I can provide for them. They are curious and creative. They are full of questions and are constantly exploring the world around them.
My Project
The early childhood books on kindness, diversity and social-emotional wellness will create a supportive classroom library.
"We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their color." Maya Angelou
My hope is to create a classroom library that teaches about being culturally responsible, about being kind to all and about social-emotional life skills. These books will be the start of essential conversations with students that will lead to deeper understanding of our world.
