Help me give my students a Flex-Space Cozy Work Space Bundle to be more comfortable as I welcome them into the library and help them embrace the love of books and reading.
My students come from every walk of life. We have a wonderfully diverse mix of students. Because we are a charter school there are children from many different cultures and backgrounds at this school. This helps children learn how to accept others around them along with learning to help out those who may not be as fortunate as they are.
The pandemic has been hard on students.
For all of last year, they were unable to see their teacher's face, except the eyes. As teachers, we had the same problem. We could not see our students' faces. We had to rely on so much more to gauge how they were handling all the problems being thrown at them. Unfortunately, as teachers, we are finding now that many students did not benefit as much as they should have in the past year. They are behind in reading, math, and language skills. That means it is even more important to find ways to connect with the students so that the joy of learning is ignited in them.
My Project
I want to create a space in the library at my school where students can relax and feel comfortable while reading a book. Let them come in, browse the library, sit on a beanbag or couch and climb into the adventures that are waiting for them in books.
I want students to come into the library before and after school and know there is a space where they can be comfortable and read a book or two.
I have a corner in my library where I would put couches and chairs for them to relax in and read. They would be able to come in as individuals or groups, read and talk about what they are reading. Students could use this space to learn more about the world around them in the books they read and then share that knowledge with others.
