My Students

My students come from various countries. We have a lot of students that are refugees. Our school has over 900 students from 35 or more countries. It is common to go into a classroom where the students speak 5-7 different languages. I love the diversity of our school. All of the students at our school receive free breakfast and lunch. It is very interesting to see students that don't speak the same language figure out a way to communicate with each other.

My Firsties have a THIRST for knowledge and soak up everything you give them.

They try very hard. It is awesome when the light bulb comes on and I see their AHA moment!! They are so excited that they understand the topic and want to share this knowledge with others. Therefore, I want to give them every opportunity to continue their educational growth with as many resources as possible!

My Project

My students will be able to use these materials to boost their learning! Reading effects every facet of their life! They need books on their level and in their homes. They don't have books in their homes or means to get to the library. Therefore, I want to have materials to send home with the students. This will enhance their learning at school.

They need to increase their sight word knowledge.

The sight word readers will help them do this. Three-fourths of my students are ESOL. Therefore, they only hear English at school. They need these supplies to learn the language and to be successful!
