Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are happy and energetic children who need lots of encouragement to learn. Our school is in a low-income area, so the parents can't help out as much as they would like. Almost all of the parents work at least one job, so coming to help at school is impossible.

Our neighborhood is a little over 60% Hispanic, and many of the parents don't speak fluent English.

Helping with homework is too big of a challenge for most. This makes every minute at school that much more important.

My Project

My class this year has a wide range of reading levels. Some of my students are just beginning to read independently, and others are very accomplished readers. My students need books on their individual levels.

I chose books with each child in mind.

I want my students to enjoy reading, but that can be difficult if the book is too challenging. I also need books that my better readers can enjoy. I added several multicultural books to the list to share during read-alouds with my students. This will encourage my students to embrace their differences and to be proud of who they are.
