This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach first graders to fifth graders but all of them struggle with self-management skills. They learn in the general education class with non-disabled peers but learn differently due to dyslexia and/or learning disabilities.

They need a variety of supplemental aids that prompt their memory and make things more concrete as they work.

Specific directions about how to do things makes task processing much easier.

My Project

My students need direct instructions to maintain their work space and complete tasks. The addition of COVID precautions means kids need their own sets of tools.

Colored bins and desk pouches work like a tool chest in the classroom.

Math and writing is made easier with their own set of manipulatives within reach like cooking tools. Creative letter building and sentence building sets will allow my students to practice writing in a new, creative way. When they are more independent with their tools, learning will grow in a new exciting way. I also want some exciting visual objects to stimulate their free writing. Nature objects like insects and life cycles that they can study under a magnifying l lens will allow them to touch and look closely as they gather words for journals.
