This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are amazing! Most of my students are on the Autism spectrum and each one of them has a different set of strengths and challenges. However, something that all my students have in common is difficulties with their communication skills. Some of my students are non-verbal and struggle to communicate basic wants and needs. Others have difficulties with social emotional learning and it is often challenging for them to identify their own and others’ feelings; this is often the cause of major tantrums and behavior issues. Additionally, my students come from low socio-economic households and do not have access to a variety of educational materials and therapeutic interventions outside of school
I believe that learning to communicate should be fun and engaging.
I have worked hard to build rapport with my students, who I think enjoy their time with me as much as I enjoy my time with them. My therapy is focused on building verbal as well as non-verbal communication skills that are functional for my students. I believe that my students are capable of expanding their basic vocabulary and social emotional understanding so that they can communicate their feelings and needs effectively.
My Project
The materials I have chosen for this project will be used with my students on the Autism Spectrum, who have significant difficulties in overall language and social communication skills. These materials will help expand their basic vocabulary and social emotional understanding so that they can communicate their feelings and needs effectively.
Many of my student need to learn words for simple actions and emotions.
These interactive materials will be motivate my students to stay engaged and learn at their optimal level. Having a good-quality laminator will be a treasure as I can make hundreds of more engaging materials for my students. I can't wait to use these materials with my students! I know they will love them!
