it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"The essence of mathematics is not to make simple things complicated, but to make complicated things simple."
~S. Gudder
My students have difficulty memorizing math facts and remembering the procedures for solving computation problems. They need visual calculators that let them SEE the math.
I teach 4th and 5th grade students with multiple disabilities in a self-contained classroom.
Our school is located in a low-income area with a majority of second language learners. My students are greatly challenged when attempting to access grade level curriculum. Many struggle to retain concepts and therefore perform far below grade level. While they are eager to learn new things, they need additional supports to access the core curriculum and meet grade level standards.
My Project
My students need visual calculators that will help them solve computation problems. Not only do these calculators continuously display the numbers entered, but set up the problem for the student. My students will make less errors and avoid the frustration of inputting the wrong number because they can't see it on the screen. The visual calculators will help them become more proficient in solving computation problems, while giving them greater access to increasingly difficult concepts at grade level.
Having visual calculators are important to my students' success because they provide additional visual support to solve computation problems.
These calculators will give them the confidence to attempt more difficult problems and move toward meeting grade level standards.
