This project is fully funded

I am the only Chemistry (10th grade) and Earth Science (9th grade) teacher at an Early College located in an urban setting. Because we are only in our fourth year, we are still acquiring laboratory equipment and curriculum resources.

The foundation for my instructional approach is the constructivist model of learning, with the teacher as a facilitator, not a final authority. My students respond well to the inquiry-based cooperative activities, but they often struggle to construct relevant conceptual models, particularly of abstract concepts like hydrogen bonding, molecular orbitals, and VSEPR theory.

I want to provide my students with manipulatives to help them experiment with building their own representations of molecular structure and orbital configurations. The magnetic water models will reinforce the unique properties of water, including polarity, hydrogen bonding, surface tension, and solubility.

Your support of this project will allow my students to collaborate in planning and conducting experiments to formulate conceptual models that are accurate, relevant, and personal. This approach will allow students to address their own misconceptions in a safe and supportive environment.
