Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are amazing. They are great participants and enjoy learning. Despite the challenges they faced, they pushed thru and engaged in class and most participated in school projects. They asked for assistance when needed and they helped each other during instruction.
My Project
I teach special needs students. Many of my students enjoy the use of visuals accross the curriculum. Therefore, a whiteboard is essential during small group instruction. For example, during math pictures such as arrays for multiplication, grouping for dividing, and number lines for adding, subtracting and or skip counting can help students with their problem solving skills. Both, teacher and students can work together to solve math problems.
In addition, sentence strips can be used as sentence starters for students who have difficulty writing a paragraph.
Also, I can model how to identify the main idea of a story with details then write them on sentence strips with the main idea on the first sentence strip followed by details written on separate strips. Students will use their sentence strips to do the same. This strategy will reinforce the following skills: reading, writing, and identifying the main idea with details in a story. I know visuals work because I’ve witnessed a serious of “aha” moments during class instruction. As a result, I want to provide my students with what they need to meet their educational goals. Therefore, these materials will provide them with visuals so they can have access to the curriculum.
