Help me give my students a class set of Balto books to support the Iditarod Reading Challenge!

My Project
My third graders attend a small, rural school. Most students have never left the state, let alone boarded a plane to unfamiliar lands. That's why I have such a passion for sharing literature in my classroom. Reading opens up the world from the comfort of our desks, taking us on field trips around the world!
Each March my students are perched at the edge of their seats tracking the Iditarod racers across the remote, wild regions of Alaska.
This year our school is planning the IditaRead Project for the upper elementary grades. Held during the Iditarod, IditaRead encourages participating schools to set individualized goals for their students to 'chase' a passion for reading. Educators involved in reading challenges such as this project have discovered that students ‘racing to Nome’ embrace the reading challenge and are anxious to read, read, read along the Iditarod Trail!
As a special kick-off event, I am requesting a classroom set of Balto of the Blue Dawn by Mary Pope Osborne to help students find the excitement and passion to run their own race! Knowledge is power, and, to create world changers, we must invest in educating our children about the land they live in. Alaska is a dream land for so many. With these books we can help bring that dream land to life!
