it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The objective of this project is to empower participants to
explore their personal and collective identity through poetry.
I plan to engage participants in creative expression using social media platforms. I will teach my students how to use social media recording and posting responsibly to create, share, and reflect on poetry that explores self-identity.
I want my students to reflect on how social media shapes and sometimes distorts perceptions of identity.
I will begin with an introduction to Identity and Poetry. We will have a brief discussion on what identity means and how it can be influenced by external factors such as culture, family, personal experiences, and digital presence. I will show examples of poets who explore themes of identity (e.g., Langston Hughes, Audre Lorde, Rupi Kaur) and how they use personal experiences to reflect on broader issues. Then we will discuss social media.
My students need the headphones to listen to listen to pod casts and social media postings. They will use the pens and motivational notebooks to make their own poetry and reflection journals.
